Moses persisted in prayer until victory was brought on the battlefield. In other words, Joshua had to do his part by leading the warriors in the battlefield while Moses did his part in bombarding heaven with prayer.
It is sometimes thought that since God has a preordained plan, there's no need to pray fervently, just let circumstances play out. However, we are not privy to what God's will is in any certain circumstance. It is for us to seek the mind of God according to the will of God as much as we know it. Praying doesn't deny God's will, it's us verbally and physically telling him and showing him that we KNOW only he can do it.
The Prayers Not Prayed are the prayers that never get answered.
